How to apply to an Affiliate Network

Before you rush off and apply to an affiliate merchant there are a number of important steps you need to take because if you do not you are likely to be turned down. You will not want to give the impression   that you are a beginner and will want to look professional.

If you think about the situation from the point of view of the network they will generally prefer to work with people who know what they are doing as newcomers will be a much greater drain on their time and resources.

Here are the elements you should be considering.
Website – Most Networks will require you to have a website that will help them gage the level of your knowledge. One good way to approach this is to setup an affiliate blog and write a number of posts on affiliate marketing, say 10/12 or so and make sure that the emphasis is towards you preferred type of affiliate marketing.

Traffic – You should have a good knowledge of how to get traffic to your offers so that you can convince the Networks that you will be able to get the sort of volumes they will be hoping for.

Sell yourself – You will have to convince the Network that you will become a decent client. We are not suggesting that you mislead them but make sure that you have done your homework and properly understand your strategies.

Choose the right Networks – Try to carry out due diligence on the Networks you apply to and thus ensure a solid foundation upon which to build a relationship. As a rule of thumb you should stick to the larger corporate networks and make sure that their terms of trading suit you. One good way to check on the quality of the networks is to follow affiliate blogs and forums in order to understand the buzz and feedback about the various networks.

If you run into any problems and get rejected by a network then don’t become too despondent as you can always give them a call and sell yourself on the phone. This will work almost all the time as long as you adopt a conciliatory approach rather than a confrontational one.
